Rhyolite
is a volcanic stone formed from lava flows. A relative of granite it has
much finer crystals. The minerals that make up rhyolite are quartz,
feldspar, mica, and hornblende. Besides rhyolite, this stone is also
know as Wonderstone, Wonder Rock, Rainforest Jasper, Leopardskin Jasper,
Birdseye, Hickoryite and a few others. Found in many places in the
western United States, Mexico and Australia. The Rainforest Jasper we
have comes from Australia and the Leopardskin Jasper comes from Mexico.
Color: light gray, yellowish, cream, mauve, tan to medium brown, light
to brick-red white, gray, greenish and reddish. The color may be even,
or in bands of differing shades.
